Stater Bros. Markets is expanding its online grocery presence under its own banner through a partnership with grocery e-commerce specialist Mercatus.
Plans call for Stater Bros. assembles an end-to-end scalable online grocery platform – from front-end and fulfillment of online purchases to payment and digital advertising – using the software platform solutions as a that service (SaaS) from Mercatus and technology partners, Toronto-based Mercatus said Wednesday. The Southern California grocer operates 170 stores.
“Now more than ever, our customers are seeking the convenience of shopping online,” Pete Van Helden, CEO of San Bernadino-based Stater Bros., said in a statement. “We see this as an opportunity to build stronger relationships with our buyers through an e-commerce journey that truly embodies our brand’s promise of excellence in food and service.
The Mercatus solution will include a device-friendly online shopping site and an e-commerce mobile app for customers to purchase Stater Bros. ‘ full line of products, including ready meals and counter items such as deli products. Buyers will also be able to choose between contactless curbside pickup or delivery and will have the option to pay online with electronic transfer of Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits or EBT cash benefits.
Stater Bros. will also take advantage of Mercatus’ enhanced execution capability, fed in tandem with ADC’s ShopperKit and Flybuy. With ShopperKit, the grocer can evolve their digital shopping experience by managing all in-store fulfillment activities for online orders, maximizing operational efficiency to drive growth and profitability, according to Mercatus. Additionally, Flybuy’s geolocation technology will speed up fulfillment of curbside customer pickup orders in two minutes or less.

These services also include the integrated digital advertising functionality of Mercatus. Powered in partnership with CitrusAd, the advertising capacity will enable Stater Bros. to include CPG brand advertising on its online grocery front-end and generate additional revenue, Mercatus said.

According to latest Brick Meets Click / Mercatus Grocery Shopping survey, online grocery sales in the United States totaled $ 8.4 billion in April, more than four times higher than pre-pandemic levels and up 16% from April 2020. Monthly active users placed an average of 2.73 online orders in April 2021, up from 2.68 orders a year earlier. , while the share of orders received via pickup and delivery increased by six and three percentage points respectively.
