Start of the National Seminar on “Machine Learning and its Applications” at ICFAI University of Tura

TURA, November 10: A two-day national seminar on “Machine Learning and its Applications”, organized by the Computer Science Department of ICFAI Meghalaya University, Tura Campus, kicked off on Wednesday.

Dr. Blizzard R. Marak, co-director, Information Technology Enabled Services, MBOSE, graced the inaugural ceremony as chief guest. Marak talked about the concept of artificial intelligence and machine learning. He also said that these skills are important in all sectors. He also talked about the benefits of these skills in finding a job. In addition, he invited students to do an internship at MBOSE. Moreover, he encouraged scholars to do their research work not only for their degree, but to contribute their work to society.

Head of IT Department, Sumit Dey, in his welcome address, said that machine learning is the trend and has a lot of possibilities for students and scholars taking courses in information technology.

Dr. Rubul Kumar Bania, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Applications, NEHU, Tura Campus, highlighted the foundations of machine learning in terms of different paradigms and techniques. Different fields of application related to health care, social networks and waste management were discussed.

Dikme Chisil B. Marak, Faculty, Department of Computer Applications, NEHU, Tura Campus, talked about supervised algorithm like KNN Algorithm, Naive Bayes, etc. to understand machine learning more deeply.

Dr. Shonahar Ali, Associate Professor, gave a talk on Multiclass Classification by ANN using RStudio. Artificial neural networks are a subset of artificial intelligence. Classification is performed by artificial neural networks using the neuralnet package. A confusion matrix was constructed to see the accuracy and also compared the accuracy with the Support Vector Machine method.

A total of 75 students are participating in the seminar, along with 9 students from NEHU, Tura Campus, 1 from IT department of ICFAI University Dehradun, 2 academicians from
Don Bosco College, Tura, and 2 Fellows from Department of Computer Applications, NEHU, Tura.
