MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company will see two prominent speakers speak at this year’s World Ports Conference. The virtual event, organized by the International Association of Ports and Harbors in collaboration with IHSMarkit and the Port of Antwerp, runs from June 21-25.

On June 23 at 4:00 p.m.Soren Toft, CEO of CEST MSC will deliver a keynote address on key developments in shipping and container logistics. While COVID-19 has crippled some businesses and industries, container shipping and logistics have prevailed as an absolutely essential sector that continues to connect the world and make global trade affordable. In his keynote address, Soren Toft will provide a fresh perspective on the priorities on the agenda for the sector to ensure it continues to evolve to meet the needs of global trade in a digitalisation and decarbonisation landscape. . His speech will be followed by a discussion with the CEO of the Port of Antwerp, Jacques Vandermeiren, on how shipping and ports can work together to keep pace with these trends.

Before that, the same day at 3:15 p.m. CEST, Andre Simha, MSC Chief Digital & Information Officer, will participate in a one-on-one session with Eric Johnson, Technology Editor at the Journal of Commerce, on the recently launched MSC Electronic Bill of Lading. How can ports work with terminal operators, shipping agents, freight forwarders and customs to adapt their processes to improve cargo clearance speed? These are just a few of the questions to be covered in what promises to be a very insightful interview.

Shaping the port landscape

The 2021 event will focus on exploring how the port landscape is changing due to the changing landscape of the maritime and logistics sector, including the acceleration of decarbonization and digitalization and the continued disruptive impact of the global pandemic.

As well as being a strategic location for MSC in Europe, Antwerp means a lot to the company as it is where it all started for MSC. Today, MSC and the port of Antwerp play an important role in the local economy. In addition to the liner business, which connects this vital European gateway to the rest of the world, MSC also offers its customers a range of dedicated intermodal services between Antwerp and the main business centers of Northern Europe and beyond. .
