Flaming ceramics: For seniors and veterans 62 and over, at the Walk In Art Center every Friday, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Make pottery or sculptures. All supplies will be provided. A donation of $ 6 is requested to help defer the cost. Information: 570-732-3728.

Mother Jones in Heaven: – A musical by Si Kahn, Saturday, September 18, 7 p.m. and Sunday, September 19, 1 p.m., The Stitch, 125 Pine St., Tamaqua. a one-woman, one-act performance has one foot in the folk tradition of storytelling and acoustic guitars. Evening with John O’Hara: Thursday September 23, 6 p.m., Schuylkill Country Club, Orwigsburg. The Schuylkill Country Club Book Club is sponsoring the event. Includes jazz music, specialty cocktails, a short program with audience interaction, and a brief discussion of O’Hara’s book “Appointment in Samarra”. The cost is $ 35 per person for dinner. Senior groups

The Schuylkill refuge: Seniors meet the second and fourth Monday of each month at Schuylkill Haven Senior / Neighborhood Center, 340 Haven St. at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 27. Information: 570-385-5323.

Township of Wayne: The group meets Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 23 Meadowbrook Center, Reedsville. Lunch is served at noon for a donation of $ 5, followed by a special activity or program. Information: 570-739-2241.

Historical societies

Schuylkill County: John O’Hara walking tour, Saturday, September 18, from 11 a.m. to noon, at the O’Hara statue on Center Street between Howard Avenue and Mahantongo Street. The cost is $ 10 for Society members and $ 15 for the general public. On September 22, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Amy Dougherty, who runs a boilie business, will give a class on how to make this regional drink at the Schuylkill County Historical Society, 305 N. Center St., Pottsville. Participants should bring a pint and ½ cup mason jar of their favorite alcohol. The evening will end with a tasting of boilies.
