PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) — A series of unfortunate events for Kenny Smith who had his truck stolen just days after his brother died.
Kenny and his dog, Brynlie, arrived at Vera Apartments to stay with a friend at around 11pm on Sunday, but within hours his white F-150 was stolen.
“I was in shock, then I kind of lost it. I did not know what to do. I mean, I just wanted to cry, I wanted to scream. I just thought that was it – it’s all over,” Smith says.
Everything he had in his name was gone. Including, clothes, a computer and his respirator.
Last week, Smith lost his brother, Carl, to cancer and lost the apartment they both shared. It was then that Smith packed up his things with Brynlie and left.
“Every day is loaded with a lot of stress because I don’t know what’s going to happen from one day to the next.”
Smith cannot yet schedule services for his brother. He lost family photos that were on his computer, that were in his truck and now all he has left are memories.
“Joking with him, we used to joke about each other,” Smith says. “I miss his laugh to tell you the truth.
Smith says the only thing that keeps him going is his best friend, Brynlie.
“There’s no one who can care for her like me or love her like me,” Smith says.
Smith is currently staying at a hotel and is unsure what he will do next, but says if he gets the chance the first thing he will do is get his brother out of the funeral home.
A GoFundMe was set up to help Smith.
