Buy like a local overseas or online with Citigold Global Wallet

With the successful rollout of vaccination programs in the UAE and other countries, the number of travelers wishing to explore the world is increasing.

After all, there’s nothing quite like 12 months of relative confinement to make those airport check-in queues all that enticing.

A recent survey by Rehlaty by dnata Travel revealed that 70% of its bookings in 2021 so far were for overseas travel. Popular destinations range from the Maldives and Tanzania to Bosnia, Sri Lanka and Zanzibar – the more exotic the better.

As the pandemic transforms consumer attitudes, online shopping is also skyrocketing. With months of brick-and-mortar store closures and varying levels of lockdowns around the world, shoppers have turned to e-commerce in their millions. And they have no intention of giving it up now.

So, if you are someone who plans business or leisure trips or likes to shop on international websites, then Citibank’s Global Wallet is for you. This is a new feature linked to your Citigold Debit Mastercard, which allows you to make purchases abroad at the point of sale or online.

It banishes the boredom of queuing at exchange offices or the risk of traveling with wads of notes. Simply put, it’s an e-ticket to a world of financial convenience, security and efficiency like you’ve never experienced before.

Here are the top reasons why the Citigold Debit Mastercard ticks all the right travel boxes.

Shop like a local (online and abroad)

Give yourself a hassle-free online shopping experience as if you were a local of the country you’re buying from, avoiding currency conversion fees while transacting in up to 8 currencies in addition to Dirhams.

If you travel abroad, life also becomes much easier. For example, with the Global Wallet feature enabled, if you are traveling to the UK and have a funded sterling account with Citibank UAE, all sterling transactions or cash withdrawals will be debited directly from your account in British Pounds – with no additional currency conversion charges.

Transact in up to 9 currencies

By activating the Global Wallet feature on the Citi mobile app, you can automatically switch your Citigold Debit Mastercard to the currency in which you transact – up to nine of them: AED, USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, CAD, NZD, CHF and JPY, subject to having an account in the currency you intend to use. This allows you to shop till you drop without incurring additional fees. You can add foreign currency accounts and top up your currencies when you find favorable exchange rates through the app, or instruct FX OrderWatch to book the exchange rate through Citi Online.

Enjoy free cash withdrawals from Citi ATMs worldwide

Because it is linked to your Citigold Debit Mastercard, the Global Wallet feature allows you to make purchases abroad at the point of sale or online and withdraw cash at Citi-exclusive ATMs without incurring foreign currency conversion fees or additional administration fees.

Transfer funds in over 60 currencies

Transfer funds in over 60 currencies 24/7 via the Citi mobile app. Citigold account holders can transfer a maximum of USD 250,000 per day through the Citibank Global Transfers platform, compared to a standard telex transfer.

Setup is hassle-free

Getting started is super easy. All you need to do is activate the Global Wallet feature on the Citi mobile app and add your foreign currency accounts, which will then be instantly linked to your Citigold Debit Mastercard. There’s no paperwork involved, so you can spend your money overseas in no time, and without the added currency conversion fees.

You don’t even have to deactivate Global Wallet after travelling. When you spend or withdraw in UAE dirham, the default UAE dirham account will be debited when the feature is enabled.
